In addition to singing and playing keyboard instruments, Emma is trained in music history, and she enjoys frequent opportunities to share her love of music through research and education.

Emma’s master’s thesis examined musical settings of John Donne’s poetry. You can read it here.

Emma regularly offers music history lectures and lecture recitals. Recent topics include music in Jane Austen’s life and times, Romantic women composers, musical expressions of Easter, and music in Episcopalian worship.

Emma served for three years as Music Researcher and Archivist at All Classical Portland 89.9, Portland’s classical radio station, where she regularly contributed to All Classical’s Arts Blog.
